Ukrainian IT-electronics holding AVentures Group reported that the Ukrainian telecommunication devices market, including wireless phones using the DECT standard, as well as corded and cordless phones and fax machines, has moved from intense growth to the saturation stage. “In 2005, growth in this market segment was about 83%”, said AVentures Group President Volodymyr Kolodyk. Telephones using the DECT standard, unlike analogue wireless phones, employ digital coding for data transmission, providing security against unauthorized connections and tapping, as well as resistance to radio frequency interference. The DECT standard also makes it possible to create wireless local-area computer networks compatible with wireless telephone systems. In 2005, the Ukrainian DECT telephone market sold 785,000 units for a total of $51 million. AVentures Group said that it expects growth of about 40% in this market segment this year, forecasting sales of 1.1 million DECT-phone units for $67 million.
